Can you see Varanasi in one day?
You can see the essentials: an early darshan at Kashi Vishwanath, Annapurna Devi next door, Kal Bhairav, lunch in the old city, a late-afternoon walk along the ghats and the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh. It's a full day; start early and keep the afternoon light in summer.

One day in Kashi
5:30 AM
From Dashashwamedh or a nearby ghat. Agree the fare first.
7:00 AM
Leave phone and bags in the lockers. Allow 1–3 hours depending on crowds.
9:30 AM
Steps away from Vishwanath.
10:00 AM
Kachori-sabzi and jalebi near Godowlia.
11:00 AM
About 2 km by e-rickshaw via Maidagin.
1:00 PM
Lunch and rest
Rest in the afternoon heat, especially April–June.
4:00 PM
From Dashashwamedh north towards Manikarnika. Observe cremations only respectfully, without photographs.
Sunset
Arrive 45–60 minutes early for a place.
Why this order
- Morning darshan is usually calmer than midday.
- Annapurna is traditionally visited with Vishwanath, and is next door.
- Kal Bhairav is a short ride away; late morning fits well between darshan and lunch.
- The ghats at dusk end at the Ganga Aarti.
Variations
- Mangala Aarti: if you've booked it, start at 2:30 AM, rest mid-morning, and continue from Annapurna. See Mangala Aarti.
- Evening darshan: swap the morning darshan for afternoon darshan and go straight to the Ganga Aarti, about 1 km away.
- Elders: take a boat instead of the ghat walk.

Frequently asked questions
Is one day enough for Kashi Vishwanath?
Yes, for darshan and the essential temples and aarti. Two to three days allows a more relaxed visit.
