What is Laghu Rudra?
Laghu Rudra is an expanded Rudra ritual in which the Sri Rudram is recited 121 times — traditionally by eleven priests reciting it eleven times each — alongside abhishek, homa or both. It is a larger undertaking than a Rudrabhishek. Laghu Rudra did not appear on the official temple portal's online list when we checked.

The Rudra ladder
Traditional Rudra rituals scale in multiples of eleven:

This is the reckoning found in traditional practice. Priests and regional traditions differ in details, such as how the Chamakam is interleaved with the Namakam.
What happens
A Laghu Rudra usually combines several elements: a sankalpa, recitation of the Rudram by the assembled priests, abhishek of the linga, and often a homa (fire offering). With eleven priests it may be completed in a day.
Arranging a Laghu Rudra in Kashi
Laghu Rudra did not appear on the official portal's online booking list when we checked in September 2026 — the list included Rudrabhishek with one or eleven Shastris. For a larger ritual, contact the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust through its help desk to ask what can be arranged.
Many Laghu Rudras in Kashi are performed outside the main temple by priests at other temples, maths or homes. If you engage priests privately:
- agree the scope, number of priests, materials and fees in writing beforehand,
- understand that a private ritual elsewhere is not a temple service, and
- don't pay anyone who claims to arrange rituals inside Kashi Vishwanath outside official channels.
