What is the Shayan Aarti at Kashi Vishwanath?
Shayan Aarti is the final ritual of the temple's day, in which Lord Vishwanath is ritually put to rest. The official schedule lists it at 10:30 PM, after which the temple closes at about 11 PM. It did not appear on the official online booking list when we checked; ask the trust about attending.

What is the Shayan Aarti?
Shayan means sleep or repose. In the Shayan Aarti the deity is worshipped for the last time in the day and ritually laid to rest, after which the temple closes.
Spiritual significance
The daily cycle of waking, feeding, adorning and resting the deity reflects the tradition of honouring the deity as a living presence. Temple tradition holds that the Shayan Aarti is the moment Shiva retires for the night in his own city.
