What are the rules for pooja at Kashi Vishwanath?
Report early with the photo ID used for booking, dress in clean and modest (preferably traditional) clothes, leave phones and bags in the lockers, and follow the priest's instructions for the sankalpa and offerings. Specific requirements for each service are set by the temple trust; check your booking details.

Before the pooja
- Report early. Allow time for lockers and security; check the reporting time on your booking.
- Bring ID. The original government photo ID used when booking.
- Know your details. Names of family members to be included, and your gotra if you know it.
Dress
Clean, modest clothes; traditional clothing is preferred for rituals — dhoti and kurta or angavastram for men, saree or salwar kameez for women. We could not confirm a single official dress rule for all poojas; follow the instructions on your booking and from temple staff.
During the ritual
- Sit where the priest indicates and follow instructions.
- Keep phones and cameras out of the temple — they are not allowed inside.
- Speak softly; join in chanting if invited.
- Don't touch the linga unless the priest asks you to take part in the offering.
Offerings and prasad
The temple's priests decide which materials are used for a booked service. Ask before bringing anything of your own.
